SAKURA (桜) is a general name for plants that belong to the subfamily of the Rosaceae. the English name for sakura is cherry blossom. Sakura can be written in Chinese characters/kanji (桜), in hiragana (さくら). It is often recognized as a symbol for fragility, grace, and short-lived beauty. Sakura day is celebrated on 27 March. 🌸

there are more than 600 species of sakura in Japan. flowers that have up to 5 petals are called hitoe (一重). flowers that have 5 to 10 petals are called hanyae (半八重). flowers that have more than 10 petals are called yae (八重). 🌸

it wasn’t a clever decision to go Gardens By The Bay on Sunday afternoon. tourists, from young children to old folks were all gathered to see this beautiful flowers. we were packed inside such a not-so-big indoor garden with chilling aircon. all just to take pictures or get awed by this seasonal beauty which only last from 3rd – 24th March. (*¯︶¯*)🌸

this pretty flowers bloomed only for a week, then the most beautiful ones are those on top of the tree, way too high for a short girl like me. and believe me it wasn’t easy to take pictures while being sardined. i did my best to take some pictures. although i wasn’t as satisfied as i did during the Lily exhibition, but i’m glad to see this beauty in Singapore even though there were only less than 10 species i counted. after spent almost 2 hours walking around and took pictures of the sakura, I finally found my favorite, 半八重. enjoy some snapshots i took below. ╰(*´︶`*)╯ 🌸

PS : i promise this won’t be my last cherry blossoms! 😍🌸🌸🌸
